It is possible to reach into the kiln during the firing with a long iron rod and manipulate a pot’s position. Normally a fallen pot will be fused to anything it is in contact with when the kiln cools. Sometimes it is possible to right a fallen piece or pull it off a shelf onto a bed of coals. Coals and embers will fuse to the surface of the pot as it cools and often form amazing textures not unlike coral growths. Extended contact with an iron rod at high temperature can also melt a hole through the piece.
